It has been another great year for Scouting in Toddington. We have 120 young people in our Group from Beavers to Explorers. All sections are thriving but there is still space for more. A magnificent team of Leaders leads the sections. All the Leaders have shown such dedication and enthusiasm throughout the year, giving up their time to run the come up with new ideas for activities, preparing and then running the evenings – all on a voluntary basis. As Chairman I would to thank them for their hard work.
I would like to thank also our fantastic and dedicated Group Leaders Karen and David and working behind the scenes our treasurer - Steve Calder and Dan Tillin our secretary and whizz kid on our web site and Facebook.
And thanks to Kenny and Julie who are our wonderful in-house catering team and for their work on our Scout Hut.
We have some new leaders join during the past year – Anna Nicholson, Kairen Busch, Andrew Draycott and Sharon Garland.
We ae a very welcoming Group and are always looking for people to join our happy band, this need not be as a Leader but to spend a few hours helping with fund raising, joining the Camp Crew at Milton Bryan, helping on pack evenings or Camps.
Our Scout Hut is in full use now but there is still work to be done to complete the project, for example the new store outside needs flooring, cladding and shelving. So, the fundraising activity still must continue for this work, for maintenance and to repay loans. Karen and Linda Simmonds need help – it will be great if we can encourage parents to spare a few hours.
Looking to the coming year - we had to postpone the Guernsey Camp this year, but we are now planning Guernsey ‘19. Please continue to support the Group by coming to the Annual Ball on October 13 - tickets are available now. We will hopefully have our Fireworks night and then a Quiz Night early next year.
So, a good year with a further great year to come.
Phil Parry, Chair.
