The Scout Information Centre has received queries from the Movement seeking guidance on wearing Scout uniform whilst travelling to/from section meetings and during activities that take place in public, given the heightened threat level. Having engaged with the statutory authorities’ counter terrorism security functions it has been ascertained that presently there is no specific intelligence placing young people wearing a Scout or similar uniform at heightened risk. Adults should continue to risk assess section meetings, and make any necessary proportionate changes to arrangements for the wearing of uniform to/from section meetings and/or whilst undertaking activities.

As ever in these times, young people and adults should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities (through the anti-terrorism hotline on 0800 789 321)

An article by Lynne Sherrifs for the Parish Magazine

Our whole Group is now supporting “We've got your back: Backpack Appeal” and have been donating essential items to go in to backpacks for the homeless in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade area, to help them feel cared for and more comfortable. Our various sections have been enjoying their Pack Nights in our cosy Scout Hut. Internal refurbishment of the Hut is almost complete, with work underway to landscape the site, including new turf currently being laid etc. We continue to fundraise to install handrails on the disabled ramp, obtain secure storage facilities etc. We will be holding a Quiz Night during the Toddington Spring Festival and are planning to take part in the St. George’s Day activities on The Green, following our Parade along Dunstable Road & the High Street to the Service at St. George’s Church that morning. It has been a while since we’ve done a St. George’s Day Parade through the village, as in recent years we’ve taken part in the District’s Play & Promise events instead.

Since the New Year, our team of dedicated Leaders have been helping our young people towards gaining badges in all manner of topics including Personal Safety, Cooking, DIY, Meteorology, Fire Safety and Navigation. There are a number of our Scouts aiming to achieve their Gold Scout Award and we wish them well with this. The various sections have been doing a wide variety of activities including a 10-pin bowling outing for the Explorers, Jiu Jitsu demonstration for the Beavers and a Morris Dancing evening for the Cubs. The Cubs had a great time with the sticks and the music, as the photos below show. A big thank you goes to the Jiu Jitsu instructors and Morris Dancers for coming along to spend time with our young people.

As we approach Easter, and the nights get lighter, we start to look forward to spending evenings outdoors and planning our Camps for the summer. There are a few in the diary already for June and July. We’ll also have some Explorers undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, with plans for their expeditions underway. Let’s hope the weather is kind to everyone this year!

If your child is interested in joining Scouting, or you are interested in finding out more about volunteering as a helper/ Leader, please see contact details at the back of this magazine or go to our website http://www.toddington.scoutsonline.co.uk/ . You can help in lots of ways, as little or as often as you can. Just get in touch - we’d love to hear from you!

Welcome Back

I know it is not Christmas yet, but it will come around soon enough. Well anyway welcome back, we are sure that you have all been looking forward to the start of another term. Each section has a full and varied program packed with great things up till the end of the year!
It is all change here, we have had an extremely busy holiday preparing for your return! Well what have we done, I here you cry. Ball preparation is in full swing & I am amazed as I am every year about the prizes and auction lots that we have had donated. We do have space if you would like to attend and I can say it is a truly magical night. To that end with this letter each child has been given some raffle tickets to sell (Obviously if you would like more let us know via your Whatsapp Groups and we will deliver them to you)
We are always grateful for parental support as if your child joins at Beaver age and stays on till Scouts we would have had your child longer than any of the Schools.
As always we are grateful for any support but would also like to welcome anyone who can help in any way
Finally please can we ask that you let us know if any of your details change so that we can keep up to date, in the coming months we will be chasing you for any details that are missed - so gift aid & of course national health numbers.
As always if you have any concerns please contact me

Guernsey 2025

With the ever changing economic climate we have decided that it would be only fair to open Guernsey 2025. This is a trip that we have not done since pre pandemic and it takes years in the planning as it is a full on ten day trip. We are aware that this is an expensive trip, which is why we are now opening it up so that we can operate a payment plan. The prospective date is from the 20th August 2025. Most Leaders have done at least one Guernsey trip so will gladly explain all that we do whilst away but we do such things as climbing, rib boats, ax throwing, kayaking, craft and everything in between. It is a trip that is huge but also makes life long memories. If you are interested please ask a Leader.

Remembrance Service - Village Green - 12th November

The Remembrance Service in Toddington is one of the few times that we expect to see all our members in attendance. Not only to show our respect for all those that have served but also all those that continue to do so including our Fire, Police and Ambulance services and we must not forget our wonderful NHS staff.
This is two hours on Sunday morning once a year, it counts towards loads of their badge work and there is nothing more special than seeing all our young people leading the way in the parade.
